There are less than 3000 Southern Sea Otters on the West Coast of the United States. We are so lucky to have a relatively large group of them in Avila Beach, California where we see sometimes 40 of them in the small amount of kelp beds we have in Port San Luis Harbor. I am lucky because I get to spend a lot of time with them while on tour with my company Avila Beach Ocean Safaris and I love to share their story of survival with others. The Southern Sea Otter is not only ‘cute’ but a real fighter to be able to survive in the times of scarce food resources and other factors that affect their ability to thrive. Enjoy the photos.
